Before your first session, it is important for you to avoid waxing for six weeks. This is also the case with the use of tweezers. The laser needs to be able to identify the hair follicle. During this time period, shaving is acceptable.
On the day before your treatment, you should shave with a clean, new razor. By shaving, the lasers will be able to locate the follicles. Using a clean, new razor ensures there is no lingering bacteria that could cause contact dermatitis after your laser treatment. (Contact dermatitis is a delayed type of allergic reaction of the skin resulting from skin contact with a specific allergen).
You MUST stay out of the sun. Any tanning of the skin can result in pigmentation in the areas you laser. Clients with a sunburn or recent tan must wait up to two weeks before receiving laser treatments.
If you are prone to nervousness, you should avoid caffeine for 24 hours before your session.
Advise us of ANY medication, supplements, or natural products you are taking or have taken recently. Antibiotic medications may increase photosensitivity. We recommend that you check with your personal physician prior to receiving laser treatments if you are taking antibiotics.
Do not bleach any hair in areas to be treated. Lighter colored hairs are difficult for the laser to target.
Due to the staggered nature of the hair growth cycle, in which some hairs are actively growing while others are dormant, laser hair removal requires multiple treatments to catch each hair as it enters the ?active? growth phase. The number of laser hair removal treatments necessary for complete hair removal varies from person to person, and is best determined during consultation. Most patients see a 70-80% reduction after 4-6 hair removal treatments, spread out between 4-6 week intervals.
A number of factors determine the length of time for a treatment. At Pure Touch Laser, we plan for adequate time to go as slowly or as fast as is comfortable and appropriate for each client. The size and ?topography? of the area treated factors into the time required, as does the amount of preparation. As a general rule, legs and backs take an hour to an hour and a half, while an upper lip or the tops of ears may require eight to 10 minutes. The front of the neck or underarms can take as little as 20 minutes.
People have compared it to a rubber band snapping against the skin. Compared to waxing the treatment has very little discomfort. Everyone?s pain tolerance is different. If you do find it uncomfortable, we can prescribe a medical grade numbing cream for the skin.
The GentleMax Laser will fire heat and light down the shaft of hair resting inside the hair follicle to the blood supply at the very bottom of this follicle. If this heat and light can travel all the way down to the blood supply of the hair, the laser will cut off the blood supply and stop any growth of the hair in the future. The hair is only attached to this blood supply during it?s growth stage. The hair must also be dark (no blonde, gray or white hair, sorry). The laser is attracted to the color of the hair so it can travel down the hair shaft and kill the blood supply.
After your treatment you should be ready to go back to work or go on with your day. In terms of hair removal, you will notice some hairs falling out during or directly after the treatment. This trend will continue for about 21 days ? just when it is about time for you to reschedule your next appointment. Rare after effects include: redness in the area that was treated. If you were exposed to the sun without sunscreen, you may also notice a skin discoloration.
