LASER HAIR REMOVAL

For years, women and men have struggled to get rid of unwanted body hair by using traditional methods such as shaving, plucking, and waxing, which can be frustrating and cause painful ingrown hairs that come right back.

HOW LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORKS

The laser produces a soft burst of light, gently penetrating the skin and targeting melanin in our hair. This process can be done on any part of the body, except near the eyes. Pure Touch Skin Center uses the industry-preferred Candela GentleMAX 755/1064 nm laser, utilizing multiple wavelengths and allowing for treatment on all types of skin. The GentleMax system’s Dynamic Cooling Device sprays a cool mist prior to the pulse of the laser, minimizing discomfort and pain during treatment.

People with dark hair and light skin see the fastest results, while darker skin requires more treatment sessions as dark skin absorbs more energy. Additionally, light colored hair like blonde and grey hair is more difficult to remove. Currently, there is no laser that is able to target these types of hairs efficiently, so see a laser technician to see what’s best for you.

PRE/POST TREATMENT CARE

Pre-Treatment Care

  • Before your first session, it is important for you to avoid waxing for six weeks. This is also the case with the use of tweezers. The laser needs to be able to identify the hair follicle. During this time period, shaving is acceptable.
  • On the day before your treatment, you should shave with a clean, new razor. By shaving, the lasers will be able to locate the follicles. Using a clean, new razor ensures there is no lingering bacteria that could cause contact dermatitis after your laser treatment. (Contact dermatitis is a delayed type of allergic reaction of the skin resulting from skin contact with a specific allergen).
  • You MUST stay out of the sun. Any tanning of the skin can result in pigmentation in the areas you laser. Clients with a sunburn or recent tan must wait up to two weeks before receiving laser treatments.
  • If you are prone to nervousness, you should avoid caffeine for 24 hours before your session.
  • Advise us of ANY medication, supplements, or natural products you are taking or have taken recently. Antibiotic medications may increase photosensitivity.

Post-Treatment Care

  • Avoid extended UV exposure for at least a week after receiving laser treatments. If outside, wear SPF 30+ sunblock at all times.
  • Immediate redness is generally expected and can last a few hours. Do not scratch or pick at any blisters.
  • Aloe vera and Vitamin E gel may be applied.
  • Be gentle while drying treated areas. Pat dry for a few days.
  • Hairs begin shedding between 3 and 30 days following treatment. You can exfoliate your skin and gently scrub, but do not force hairs out if they aren’t ready.
