Even though clients, doctors, and nurses have been using dermal fillers for close to 30 years, there still may be some misconceptions about them or surprising facts that people may not know. Those who have not used them before, or are maybe new to using fillers, might have some preconceived notions about them which may make them less likely to try them out due to irrational fears.
At Pure Touch Skin Center, we love educating our clients and those interested in our services. Despite some of the inaccuracies that we have discovered online about dermal fillers, their popularity continues to rise—and we believe that it’s due to the significant results that dermal fillers achieve.
Let’s take a look at some surprising facts about dermal fillers that you may not have known.
1. Injections Stimulate Growth Of Collagen
One of the most shocking facts about dermal fillers that many people don’t know is that they actually promote the growth of collagen. As you get older, your body starts producing less collagen, which is when we start to see skin begin to sag and become looser.
Some dermal fillers will actually promote the growth of collagen in the areas that we treat.
What our clients will start to see is less frequent visits to continue achieving the same look that they’re going for.
2. It’s Not Just For Your Face
The most popular and common area for dermal fillers to be used is the face. We often see them being injected into the lips, marionette lines, nasolabial folds, cheeks, and wrinkles all over the face.
However, some dermal fillers can be used on the back of your hands to help smooth out any wrinkles you may have. We currently have Restylane Lyft which is FDA-approved to be used on your hands.
3. Results Aren’t Permanent
You’d be surprised how many people we’ve heard over the years that think dermal fillers like Botox are permanent.
Actually, depending on the person, the product, how much they use, and where you are treated, you’ll see fillers lasting anywhere from about 4 to 12 months, but sometimes even longer.
We’ll often have clients coming back every so often to do a minor touchup to keep the aesthetic that they want.
4. Some Dermal Fillers Are Natural
If you’ve heard the term hyaluronic acid before, you might be thinking, “What the heck are they injecting into themselves?”
Actually, hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring chemical that’s already in your body. It has been approved by the FDA to be used in dermal fillers for approximately 15 years.
Similarly, some dermal fillers contain collagen, which is also a naturally-occurring protein in your body. It helps your skin structure stay in place.
5. Fillers Aren’t Just For Women
You’d be surprised at how many people think that dermal fillers are used exclusively by women. This couldn’t be further from the truth. While men may not use them quite as much as women, they do use them.
We have plenty of male clients that come in to get their eleven lines, nasolabial folds, and even lips treated by our beauticians.
Guys don’t have to hide it anymore! It’s perfectly normal—and common—for them to want to keep their youthful appearance as age starts setting in.
Hopefully this helped you learn a little something new about dermal fillers. There have been misconceptions about them in the past, but that is slowly fading away as people see the results that we, and other med spas, can achieve by properly using dermal fillers.
Before you decide to get any treatments, make sure that the staff at the facility you have chosen is properly trained to do injectables. At Pure Touch, we employ only registered nurses who have been properly trained in administering dermal fillers. We also recommend getting a free consultation if you have any questions or concerns. Hope to see you soon!
