What To Ask When You Want Laser Hair Removal

Next month is the official start of summer, which means everyone will be showing more skin soon—and you may have started daydreaming about laser hair removal treatments.

If you’ve never had this treatment before and you’re curious about what it entails, you may have several questions. Check out the list of things that we’re most commonly asked at Pure Touch Skin Center, and see if this helps give you some of the info you’re looking for. And if you don’t see your question on here, you can always contact us!

If I want smooth skin for the summer, when should I begin treatments?

Those who want to be swimsuit-ready should begin getting laser hair removal treatments in the fall before summer. This is because of two things: one, you will need multiple sessions. If you begin in the fall, your skin will be ready by the summer.

The second reason is because after your laser hair removal treatments, you’ll need to avoid sun exposure. Fall is a great time for this, since the days tend to be cooler.

Is your specific laser going to work well for my type of skin?

Different lasers focus on different things, so it’s wise to ask what type of laser will be best for your skin’s color, tone, oil level, and texture. At Pure Touch, we will also discuss any potential complications with you.

Do you perform a lot of laser hair removal treatments?

Yes! At Pure Touch, we regularly perform laser hair removal, as it’s one of our most popular treatments. You should never go to a laser hair removal clinic that doesn’t have a lot of experience in the practice. Be sure to work with someone who is certified and has a lot of expertise.

How should I prepare for my laser hair removal treatment?

It depends. Typically, the area that is being treated will need to be cleaned and shaved, because with some lasers, the more hair you have the less effective the laser will be (this also goes for stubble).

However, there are other types of lasers that require a couple days’ worth of hair growth, so be sure to ask us—or whomever you visit—about the exact prep you’ll need to do.

You’ll also need to avoid the sun even before laser hair removal. If you’re tan or sunburned, you can’t have the treatment done because tanned skin can’t safely or effectively receive the laser. It will either burn or it won’t work at all.

What medical issues should stop me from getting laser hair removal?

Women who are pregnant or nursing should not get laser hair removal, and there are some medications that have an effect on the treatment. We will go over your medical information to address any issues beforehand.

How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?

Generally, the amount of treatments you’ll need is 4-6, but this number can change depending on your hair and/or skin type.
